Camp Life
All non-music camp activities at camp are led by Cabin Counselors. Our Cabin Counselors are college students who share a passion for music. Counselors spend a week of staff training focusing on safety, nurturing, homesickness, fun, leading games and hikes, team-building, campfires, PCP traditions and other skills that help to make the summer successful for each camper. Our Cabin Counselors are the first friendly faces campers encounter upon arrival, and with whom special bonds are formed that often last a lifetime.
Electronics at camp: Campers are unplugged. Cameras are the only electronic allowed at PCP. iPods can only be used in the cabins during rest hour to listen to music.
Phone Calls: Campers are not allowed to call home, or receive phone calls. Phone communication is not permitted except in the case of emergencies. Campers love to hear their names called at lunch when mail is delivered.
Homesickness: If you are concerned about homesickness, please ask JennyB to send you a helpful cd/dvd by a noted psychologist, Jim Thurber. The short week of Prelude is a gentle introduction to being away from home for the first time. Our staff is specially trained to deal with homesickness. Hearing family voices only increases homesickness, and decreases the camper’s adjustment to being away from home, therefore impromptu visits and phone calls are not allowed.
If the homesickness disrupts camper’s nighttime sleeping or affects their appetite, we will be in touch with you immediately.
Cabin Living
Campers sleep in rustic cabins of 4-8 bunk beds that have been lovingly covered with graffiti by former campers. All cabins have electricity, hot showers, and bathrooms located en suite.
