NMOP 2020 Timeline

Applications for 2020 are now closed. Deadline: February 1, 2020 (11:59PM, EST)
Applications are accepted by participants ages 18-35. Exceptions to the age criterion are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applications are only considered when complete. All applications must include:
- Audition materials per category as outlined below
- Online application form
- Name/contact for three references (do not send letters at this time)

Audition requirements: scores (pdf) and links to recordings of 3 original works. MIDI is acceptable. Recordings for which no score is available or appropriate can be submitted.
All instruments and vocal types will be considered, though we do not have the facilities for large instruments such as harp, marimba, organ, etc. Piano duos can apply.
String quartets and chamber ensembles (2-5 players) must submit one application as a pre-formed group. Recordings must include the same players who are applying. Ensemble members who are interested in attending as a solosit, if their ensemble is not accepted, should apply separately.
Audition requirements: 3 contrasting performances, at least one of which was written after 1970, with accompanying links to recordings.
Dual applicants are encouraged. This can be performer-composers or ensemble-soloists. Work samples for both areas should be sent.
Fees, Payment, Refunds
Fellowships/Work Study: A limited number of partial scholarships and work study positions will be available. More information will be communicated with accepted applicants in March. The following tuition-free fellowships will be available in 2020:
Latin American Fellowship
For a composer or performer from a Latin American country, 18-35 years old. The applicant can be currently studying or living in the US or any other country. This fellowship provides free tuition, room and board, and travel funds. The 2020 Fellowship is in honor of Argentine composer/conductor Erik Oña (1961-2019). We are very grateful to our donor for establishing this fellowship.
Yvar Mikhashoff Piano Fellowship
For a pianist, 18-35 years old. Yvar Mikhashoff was an American pianist and composer who dedicated his career to contemporary music. This Fellowship provides free tuition.
Eva L. Steigelman Vocal Fellowship
Eva Laucks Steigelman was a soprano who made her 1929 debut in Don Juan in Dresden, Germany. A frequent performer, Eva touched many lives. Eva’s family is honoring her life with this Vocal Fellowship which provides free tuition to a vocalist 18-35 years old.
NMOP Participant Ensemble-in-Residence
A pre-formed chamber ensemble (any instrumentation, 2-5 players) will be provided with free tuition.
Meals (3 per day)/Accommodation=$600
Accepted participants must send a $500 deposit by March 6 of notification of acceptance to reserve a space. Deposits are not refundable after March 23, except in cases of documented medical emergencies.
The balance of fees is due in full no later than May 1. Payment of the balance can be made via PayPal or Credit Card ($2,170 which includes the 3% PayPal fee) or by check ($2,100), payable to NMOP and mailed to:NMOP
