NMOP 2024 Applicants

NMOP 2024 will be a special edition of our festival. Every participant will explore every aspect of music-making this year, including performing, improvising, composing, and collaborating with other participants and faculty. All applicants will apply as musical artists without being categorized as “composer” or “performer.” We are looking for examples of all kinds of musical creativity from ALL applicants this year.

Creative Samples

All applicants will be able to submit up to three samples of work in which they are musical creators, in the sense of composer/improviser/collaborator. Scores and links to audio/video recordings should be included whenever possible. MIDI renditions of pieces for live performers are acceptable (though not encouraged). We accept (and encourage) the inclusion of recordings and realizations of electroacoustic music or experimental works that do not use traditional scores.

Performance Samples

All applicants will be able to submit up to three samples of work in which they are musical performers. These samples may feature you performing pieces composed by others, OR your own creative work (compositions, improvisations, etc.). Please submit performance samples that contrast in style. For samples featuring standard repertoire, please include only music composed after 1970.

Participant String Quartet-In-Residence

For NMOP 2024, we are accepting applications from pre-formed string quartets only.  In addition to participating in the collaborative activities of NMOP 2024, the participant string quartet-in-residence will work closely with JACK Quartet, receiving coaching and guidance for repertoire performance.

String Quartets should submit one application as a pre-formed group. Recordings must include the same players who are applying. String Quartets will receive a reduced tuition rate. String quartet members who are interested in attending as a soloist should indicate this on the application form and include additional recordings. They only need to pay one application fee.
