Why should young musicians be the only ones attending music camp?

At Point CounterPoint, we believe that chamber music should be played by all ages!

We offer two Adult Workshops at the end of each summer, an Adult Chamber Workshop followed by an Adult Piano Workshop.  These two adult programs are mutually exclusive, although some participants choose to do both!  Tuition for each workshop at PCP includes 3 delicious meals and hors d’oeuvres daily: $910.

The Adult Chamber Workshop welcomes string, piano and wind players ages 25 and up of all levels of experience.  Our resident faculty are all music teaching and performing professionals. Faculty coach both preset groups and those that apply individually.

The workshop begins at lunchtime on Wednesday followed by private lessons.  During the session, each participant receives a private lesson, is grouped into two different ensembles and rehearses with daily coachings. The workshop culminates in a Sunday concert on campus followed by a celebratory lunch for participants and family.  Repertoire is sent to participants approximately 6 weeks prior to the start of the workshop.

Pianos on the Point welcomes adult pianists to experience the joys of playing together in a warm, supportive environment. This focused track provides pianists with the opportunity to delve even deeper into their musical journey, offering additional repertoire, insights, and collaborative experiences.  We match players of similar levels to work together for 5 days on duo repertoire that is assigned at least 6 weeks in advance, in consultation with each student’s preferences.

The main hall at Point CounterPoint has 2 Steinway grand pianos, so in addition to 4-hand pieces on one piano we can also include works written for two pianos. Many students enjoy the opportunity to do both, by participating in two different groups. On the fifth day we have an “in house” concert for fellow students and coaches, to share and celebrate our progress.

On the first day of the workshop, each student has a private lesson with one of the 3 pianists on faculty. Rehearsals, coaching sessions with faculty, and additional private lessons are scheduled throughout the following days. You will have ample time for individual practice and also for enjoying the beautiful surroundings: hiking, kayaking, swimming, or just sitting by the lake. In the evenings an optional music-related activity is offered, such as 8-hand piano jamboree, a listening session, or a talk on a particular composer.

Never played piano duets before? You’re in for a treat! Not sure whether your piano skills are up to it? Talk to our music director in person about your experience with the piano. Past participants have included players new to piano duos as well as experienced music teachers.

A recording of your playing and a list of repertoire studied are required when applying in order to help us match duo partners appropriately. We welcome applications from duos who have already played together.

For more information on our application process please visit our apply page.

Meals during the Adult Workshop (tuition includes all meals)

Meals at PCP are quite legendary!  Our menu is local, fresh, delicious and always interesting.  And yes, there are snacks between meals. Each meal offers vegetarian options and dietary restrictions are accommodated, when possible.   Each evening before dinner, we offer hors d’oeuvres and wine as a time to come together, and get to know one another.
